What's hot in music 2016 - Alphamax- featured artist interview http://www.marquix.tv/features/Alphamax1.html

Brilliant funk rocker and entertainer Alphamax taps into a strong vibe to create an original blend of funk / fusion music with a rhythmic twist. It's little wonder why his new radio single ‘Never Never’ is racing up the charts.
Auckland, New Zealand resident Alphamax is a excellent example of a funk artist that elegantly leverages his originality and compositional skills to the service of modern entertainment. His new single ‘Never Never’ demonstrates blazing musical stylings that are sure to appeal to mainstream audiences. This funk rocker with a performance flair has the right look and the right attitude to become a proper funk / fusion-magnet and audiences around the world are beginning to acknowledge the fact that a new creative force has arisen. Where will he take it from here? One critic wrote of his award-winning work: ‘Alphamax operates through a sensual, highly inflected English that instantly intrigues, and the funky shape of 'Never Never' will have consummate appeal to fans of the genre.’ We suspect this artist will navigate the future on his own terms, given his obvious passion and musical skills. Independent reporter Alexis Adams recently caught up with Alphamax to discuss his music and the interesting path by which he came to it.
ALEXIS: As an artist on the rise, what is one thing you are most excited about and one thing you are most afraid of happening in your career?
ALPHAMAX: We get very excited and inspired every time we hear a positive feedback about our songs or performances. We love what we do. There are no career plans or expectations only dreams. It makes us happy to compose, rehearse, play music and especially to perform our songs live. It is a very fulfilling lifestyle, therefore there is no fear, just joy

ALEXIS: Your song ’Never Never’ is receiving a positive listener response on radio. What was your initial reaction when you first heard your song playing on radio?
ALPHAMAX: It is one of our dreams which has already come true. All our close friends loved the song when we first shared it with them. Now we are delighted that our
song connects us with so many likeminded people all over the world.

ALEXIS: What was the inspiration behind your debut radio single?
ALPHAMAX: We are a happily married couple and we often meet people who are in search of happiness with that someone special. From an outsider’s perspective it is much easier to recognise when someone else’s relationship is dysfunctional. In most cases you are not even in a position to make a comment or give and advice. But even when you can do it, trying to help out a relative or a friend, they never listen. Our song Never Never was our attempt to help someone we know and care about to face their problems. We believe that a song can find a way to person’s heart much quicker than just words.

ALEXIS: It is often said that great art arises from difficult experience. Is there something in your life experience thus far that you would describe as the ‘catalyst’ or ‘fuel’ for your desire to create music?
ALPHAMAX: Absolutely. For many years I (Leina, the lead singer-songwriter in ALPHAMAX) woke up at night hearing a nice melody in my head or composing a symphony while conducting an orchestra in my dreams, It was very frustrating as I didn’t have any application of the talent I knew I possessed. Then one day a friend of mine referred me to the genius voice coach Cheryl McLeay. After a few years of intensive vocal training and artistic development under her guidance everything started to fall into the right place and now here I am communicating my music to the world.

ALEXIS: How would you characterize yourself as an artist/musician? (Ex. Down-to-earth, serious, fun-loving, complicated…)
ALPHAMAX: All of the above and also unpredictable. We try to just go we the flow and see what happens.

The Alphamax Interview

2015 has been a big year for lead singer of band Alphamax Eleina (Leina) Brown. Leina, although always loving music and dance had not considered herself an artist until taking up singing and ukulele 2 years ago. From there Leina discovered a new passion and has followed it with intent, forming a band and founding a music venue in Auckland.
We caught up with Leina to find out more about Alphamax, whose genre Leina describes as a soulful, jazzy funk/pop. The band has four songs so far available for download, and each tells a story through its melody and lyrics. Uniquely each song seems to speak from both sides, when asked why this is, instead of concentrating on one side or feeling only Leina answers simply “Every song has more than one meaning and every person has a different outlook on life. It seems to be fair to reflect it.” On listening to each song you can find yourself feeling thought provoked as you consider there are two sides to every story, which can often be overlooked.
But what about the message within each song? Where does the inspiration come from to want to convey a message to the listener? Again Leina answers simply, “We all have people around us who struggle to find happiness. It is always easier from the outsider’s point of view to see a solution to any problem, but it is not easy to pass a message without hurting people you care about or interfering with their lives. I believe we found our unique way to resolve that issue through an artistic expression and we hope our music will  make some people a bit happier.”
So then what is it that Alphamax wishes to portray to its listeners? Is the music to inspire, relax, enjoy or warn? “That is a very interesting question. Obviously we’d like our audience to react to our music in every positive way you mentioned. Are we achieving it? It is hard to tell. -We are a new, emerging band and we are just at the beginning of establishing ourselves and finding our musical identity.” But Leina’s lyrics seem to cut through, although the music is catchy and perfect to relax to, the real beauty is in the raw lyrics where each line conveys meaning to the listener. To be taken as a warning or identified with as a past experience.
Alphamax and Leina have the ability to move into events an management with a great venue in Auckland, if you have a great idea or want to contribute- as Leina says-  “One of Alphamax’s unpublished songs has lyrics in it ” Let’s get together, let’s have some fun!”  My fellow musicians and I are trying to implement a vision of organizing musical events in an  informal party style, with more interaction between performers and audience. The project is still in it’s early days and we would appreciate any suggestions or ideas on our Facebook public group page Musicians and Friends Party Circle or band page www.facebook.com/alphamaxnz“
For someone whose career has always been involved elite sports and business how is it achievable to balance life in music whike still maintaining a sport career and business ventures? “One of my strong professional  skills is planning. I always put at least one task I enjoy in my everyday schedule. You can accomplish a lot if you enjoy the process. I am a very lucky person. My life balance is about right and it is easy for me to put a lot of time and effort into doing things which I really love – sport and music.”
So how has the art of music influenced Leina’s life? “The answer to this question for the vast majority of fortunate people who are involved in music productions one way or another is amazingly simple. It is: Music is my life…. This is also true for me.”
Now for the words of wisdom..
